COCHI | Key Chopsticks
COCHI's original chopsticks are crafted from Siam Persimmon wood, prized for its beautiful grain reminiscent of the expressive brushstrokes of traditional ink wash paintings. The octagonal handle, a shape long associated with good fortune, is carefully finished with layers of urushi lacquer, creating a comfortable grip that naturally fits in the hand. The finely tapered tips allow for precise handling, making it easy to pick up even the smallest ingredients.
Characterized by its deep dark brown tones and distinctive marbled grain, Siam Persimmon is a rare and highly valued wood often used for fine tea utensils and other luxury crafts. Each pair is meticulously shaped by hand before being finished with multiple layers of urushi lacquer, resulting in a rich depth of color and an elegant, lasting luster.
As each pair is individually handcrafted, slight variations in shape and dimensions are to be expected and are part of the unique character and beauty of the craftsmanship.
The entire surface of each pair is finished using the traditional fuki-urushi technique, in which layers of urushi lacquer are repeatedly wiped into the wood to enhance its natural grain. The Tin finish is created by dusting fine tin powder onto the lacquered handle before it fully cures, while the Vermilion finish is coated with rich honshu (traditional vermilion) urushi lacquer.
As each pair is individually handcrafted, slight variations in color, shape, dimensions, and wood grain are to be expected and are part of the unique beauty and character of the craftsmanship.
